Background. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the effect of the pelvic floor muscle exercise on the sexual life and urinary incontinence in the climacteric women. Results. Sexual life pattern after pelvic floor muscle exercise showed an active improvement in most questionnaire items, appearing especially significant increase on "experienced orgasm recently" item in the postmenopausal group(p<0.02).

Pelvic floor muscle exercise increased sexual satisfaction, showing especially significant increase on whole menopausal group(p=0.036) and postmenopausal group(p=0.008). On whole menopausal group, items of "I feel comfortable satisfaction after having sex" and "I have high interest on sex", and on postmenopausal group, items of "I have enough sex frequency", "I feel comfortable satisfaction after having sex", "I become excited by the petting before sex", "I have opened conversation about sex with my husband" showed statistically significant improvement after exercise(p<0.05).

On sexual activity there was not significant but optimistic effect on the whole menopausal group after the exercise. However, there was signigicant effect on the premenopausal group(p=0.009). Item of "Sex is an important part of my life" on whole menopausal group, and items of "I was exhausted after having sex", "I experienced dryness of vagina" on premenopausal group showed optimistic effect significantly. In all questionaire items of feeling for sexual life after the exercise "improved" portion was higher than "worsen" portion.

There was no statistically significant difference in urinary incontinence in post pelvic floor muscle exercise group. However, there was noted a tendency towards improvement on premenopausal and postmenopausal group.
